Features and Design:
The HTC Wildfire S for U.S. Cellular is a smartphone running on the Android 2.3.3 Ginergerbread and HTC’s Sense interface. Both of these are currently outdated as multiple new versions have been released. Sense still provides the user with an easy to use and intuitive interface.
The 600MHz processor is not blazing fast, but gets the job done. Apps are generally responsive. It has Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and supports Wi-Fi. Its dimensions are 4 inches tall, 2.3 inches wide, 0.49 inches thick, and weighs in at 3.7 ounces. This gives the Wildfire S a much more compact and petite design compared to the large devices the market is trending towards today.
However, the downside to have a compact phone is the small display it comes with. The Wildfire S has a 3.2 inch HVGA display with a resolution of 480×320 pixels. There are four basic buttons at the bottom of the screen for navigation home, menu, back, and search. There is also a volume rocker, 3.5mm headset jack, a Micro-USB charge port. Call quality and clarity is good, with slight background noises. The battery has a continuous talk time of 6.7 hours and a standby time of 13 days.
The HTC Wildfire S has lots of features available to the user. It has the typical features like speakerphone, conference calling, speed and smart dialing, and both text and multimedia messaging. Google has also loaded the Wildfire S with lots of their applications and features like YouTube, Maps with navigation, and email. HTC has also loaded apps onto the Wildfire like Friend Stream and Peep. U.S. Cellular has preloaded apps on the Wildfire S too.
For example, they loaded Your Navigator Deluxe, which is U.S. Cellular’s navigation application powered by TeleNav. Other apps U.S. Cellular preloaded on the Wildfire S include MyContacts, Audible audio book app, Tone Room store for ringtones, and Daily Perks.
The Wildfire S has a 5MP camera with features like LED flash, face detection, and lots of editing tools, presets, and effects. This camera is also capable of recording video up to 640×480 pixel resolution. The picture quality is average for a 5MP camera phone.
Pros:
The HTC Wildfire S is an Android Smartphone with a good user interface in HTC’s Sense. It is a very compact phone for ultimate portability and comfortable in-pocket feel.
Cons:
The biggest withdrawal of the HTC Wildfire S can also be seen as one of its strengths. The small size of the Wildfire S makes watching videos, playing games, and surfing the web more tenuous. The processor is subpar and runs on old versions of Android and HTC’s Sense.
It is a good idea to compare the newest range of HTC mobile phones and the latest features packed on these devices.
