Jailbreak iOS 5 on iPad, iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch with Redsn0w 0.9.9b5

There are some great luxuries available to us due to the efforts of none other than the Jailbreak community. Recently, tether-jailbreak has been released with the update, and the new iOS 5 is no exception.

The customers surely want to upgrade to the new version of iOS, thus many if not all of them will be pleased to hear that we can jailbreak it giving you access to all the hacks and tweaks that are desired.

As and when Apple cautiously provides updates there is a question about whether the people would need to jailbreak it or not. If you just steal games and apps then most of the tweaks of Cydia are automatically improved.

Jailbreak iOS 5

It is important to know for all of you that some of the Jailbreak apps do not get into the default software of Apple and thus they are of no use. SBSettings is an important example; it provides you the ability to control the device by a activation method.

Due to the efforts of the Dey- team of iPhone, you can learn to tether- jailbreak the device by just going through the tutorial given below.

From iPhone Dey-Team Blog:

“With today’s official iOS5 release, redsn0w has been updated to 0.9.9b5 to include the public URLs for the IPSW files.  This way, first-time iOS5 jailbreakers don’t need to supply the IPSW file manually.  It’s still a tethered jailbreak on all except the old-bootrom iPhone3GS, and it doesn’t apply to iPad2 or the upcoming iPhone4S.

Because the jailbreak is currently only tethered for most devices, we’re not going to release a new PwnageTool yet.  Instead, we’ve decided to build some of PwnageTool’s functionality into redsn0w (since you need redsn0w to “Just boot tethered” on every power cycle anyway).  The new “Custom IPSW” button on the Extras screen will create a custom IPSW without the baseband update for 4.3.3 or 5.0gm (iPhone3GS and iPhone4 only, for now).  Remember not to accidentally restore to the stock IPSW after you create the custom one!  The custom one begins with NO_BB_ (for “no baseband”).

You must enter “Pwned DFU” mode before trying to use the NO_BB_ IPSW with iTunes (and your hosts file cannot be pointing to Cydia’s servers due to the new blob nonce mechanism they’re using in iOS5).

Version 0.9.9b5 is available only for Mac for now, until we can do more testing on the windows version of “Custom IPSW”.

We’re currently working on a normal compatibility update for existing ultrasn0w unlockers.  After that we’ll try to fix the iBooks issue on jailbroken iOS5.”

Things you must remember:

  • This is not for iPad 2 or iPhone 4S as it will not work with them.
  • Tethered jailbreak; you will have to connect the device to a computer with Redsn0w running on it whenever you have to power it up.
  • When there is an untethered jailbreak surface on the device, you will have to restore the device if you want to use it.

Get started now:

Steps

  • Download and install iTunes 10.5 on PC and connect device with it.
  • Make backup of everything.Upgrade to iOS 5 using iTunes.
  • Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 for Mac.Redsn0w 0.9.9b5
  • Click on jailbreak and enter DFU, then Redsn0w will do all and even get files from Apple servers!

Booting

  • Go to DFU and then click “Extras”, then select “Just Boot”. Redsn0w will boot. It is with the nature of this jailbreak that you will have to do the same booting steps again and again every time you reboot.
